2 dead in Afghanistan suicide blast

AfghanistanA suicide bomber detonated explosives in western Kabul on Sunday, killing at least two people, police said.

The blast also wounded six others, officials told CNN.

Authorities were at the scene and details about the attack were not immediately available.

The attack comes a day after authorities say insurgents killed a soldier with the NATO-led force in Afghanistan.

“On behalf of ISAF, I relay our deep sympathy to the loved ones of this brave soldier,” said Brig. Gen. Richard Blanchette, a spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). “The soldier died fighting for the day when Afghans will be able to ensure their own security.”

The ISAF was formed under a U.N. mandate to bolster a secure environment and support the reconstruction of Afghanistan, according to the organization.

NATO took command of the ISAF in 2003. There are about 50,000 troops from 41 countries, according to the organization.
